The Wild Life

We don’t see many animals in the city
where we are
tense, in our terrace
filled with years
with breeding
lack of sleeping

So, we go to the country
We see baby pheasants
rabbits, ducks and swans
sheep, cows and lambs.

The only wildlife you’ll find at home
Is a right moody cow
Eight months’ gestated.

But in the country
we went on a barge.
I was cold
so you gave me your hat
Your arms around me
like the first time
Your lips on the back of my neck.

We went to the country to see the wildlife
But the brochure never said
It could resurrect butterflies.
